Innes MacLellan

I'm drawn to the tension at the edges of opposites - control and chaos, humour and horror - where the most interesting transformations occur. Perception is central to my practice: meaning is not fixed but formed through interaction, with a piece becoming fully realised through the viewers encounter. Recurring symbols and textures invite projection and reflection, prompting questions around recognition, familiarity, and frameworks through which we make sense of the world.

A sense of belonging underpins my work, shaped by my upbringing - where the bucolic and brutal coexist. This early exposure continues to influence my sensibility and bleeds into the tensions and layered references that surface across my work.
